Awareness/Involvement

Missions awareness happens many ways

  • On-going mission education organizations provide a comprehensive look at missions locally and globally.
  • Help church members discover how they can join God on mission through direct and personal involvement in missions and the lives of missionaries.
  • Promote the missions offerings taken annually in New Mexico Baptist churches for North American, International and State mission causes.
  • Participate in a missions team from you church or association, or as member of a Partnerships Missions Team
  • Become a volunteer in one of the many areas listed or in a ministry opportunity in your community or sponsored by your church.

Here are some of the ways to become involved in missions in New Mexico

  • Mission Service Corps
Mission Service Corps is the plan of Southern Baptists to enlist adult volunteers who will serve in missions and evangelism in North America. The place of service could be the place where the volunteer already lives or another place where the volunteers can meet needs particularly suited to their gifts and skills. Contact Richard Gomez for opportunities of service in New Mexico
  • Seniors on Mission
Seniors on Mission are retired New Mexico Baptists who have a desire to be on mission for Jesus. They consider needs from smaller congregations and individuals in need of construction, repairs and refurbishing projects. Seniors on Mission provide their own materials and volunteer their time.
  • Disaster Relief
Southern Baptist disaster relief is Christian love in action, meeting urgent needs of hurting humanity in crisis situations. Disaster response is meeting those needs with “a cup of cold water” in Jesus’ name. Trained disaster responders contribute manpower, ministry, financial help during floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, earthquakes, and urban disasters. New Mexico Baptist are among the other Southern Baptist who have built 335 mobile mass feeding, recovery, child care, shower, laundry and command, units. • Summer Ministry Projects
Mission teams from all over can be matched with those needing teams by contacting Cricket Pairett.
  • Literacy Missions
Literacy missions volunteers teach English as a Second Language, Adult Reading and Writing, and Tutor Children and Youth. Chronological Storying provides a way to give oral learners a way to study the Bible.
  • Deaf Ministries
Becoming involved in deaf ministries provides a place of service to those with sign language skills and gives deaf people an opportunity to “hear” the gospel and fellowship with other non-hearing individuals.
  • Partnership Missions
The Baptist Convention of New Mexico currently has partnership with British Columbia, Canada and Kenya.  We are developing a partnership with Ufa, Russia to begin sometime in 2014.
